Day 31 - ‘in-a-minute’

In John 15v15b, Jesus says, I have called you friends…’ – what a friend!

Northern Irishman Joseph Scriven wrote the hymn, ‘What a friend we have in Jesus’ after a bereavement.  I often find myself reciting it as a poem and knowing it was written from indescribable grief makes it so powerful.
‘What a friend we have in Jesus all our sins and griefs to bear’ and later
‘in his arms he’ll take and shield you, you will find a comfort there.’

Scriven could have gone the other way into blame and bitterness but he had the courage to turn to God and receive the Lord’s indescribable comfort and peace.  What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.
I commend it to you today.

God Bless

 A Prayer

Help me O God to be a good and true friend, to be always loyal and never let my friends down.  This I ask for Jesus’ sake who is the greatest and truest friend of all friends.  Amen

A Prayer
O love eternal, my soul needs and chooses you eternally!  Come, and inflame our hearts with your love! To die to all other love in order to live in Jesus' love, so that we may not die eternally. But that we may live in your eternal love, amen.  Anon.
