Day 30 - ‘in-a-minute’
How are you?
The Gospel of Mark 9v30 records the disciples arguing about who was the top dog in Jesus’ team. They were working out a ‘pecking order.’ I recall my grandfather taking me into his farmyard and showing me his chickens vying for position as he was feeding them; from the bossiest hen to the runt of the brood they worked out the ‘pecking order’ – survival of the ‘beakiest.’ With the Scottish SNP election and in reshuffles in our political parties there is vying for places in the Cabinet or Shadow Cabinet. The world’s pecking order is about, power and money and status. Jesus’ pecking order is that the first is last and that the leaders serve. As Philippians 2:4 puts it, ‘….in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.’ Let us model Jesus’ pecking order today, serving and showing compassion to those we meet and care for, putting others first.
God Bless
