Father’s Day Reflection

  • 11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

  • Question 5 - Can you tell us what are you up to now?

Thought for Father’s Day Luke 11:11-13.

1.   Start by sitting at the front, saying nothing but looking up to the ceiling purposefully and without looking down once, fully absorbed in ‘something up there’. Hold for as long as you can, hopefully arousing curiosity and amusement!

2.   Who do you look up to? Who is a role model for you? Who inspires you to become the best you can be? Today, we’re thinking of male role models in particular. Let’s hear of a few. Shout out the names of those who fit the following descriptions for you:
A male footballer; a male singer you think is great; a male chef you like; a male actor you love;

3.  Next suggest male role models but this time just ask everyone to think of the person without shouting out any names: A male teacher who inspired you; a male friend who has helped you; a male relative who you look up to; a male member of the family who has loved/cared for you. For many of us, our fathers are the best male role models that we have had… but even the best dads can mess up being a father.

4.   Luke 11 we learn that, not only is God a loving father but we are beloved children of his.
Jesus in Luke 11:11 said if this gift [show it] was from your father, would you expect him to give a scorpion? Of course not. If that’s true of earthly fathers, then how much more will our heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him? Our Heavenly Father is dying to give good gifts to us his children. Open the gift - a Fridge Magnet!!

Friends… cousins… stepfathers… teachers… coaches… Sunday School Teachers… dads… Who can you give thanks for today. They have been a father figure to you and give us a glimpse of our heavenly father.
