Day 40 - ‘in-a-minute’
This is Holy Saturday and the last of my ‘in-a-minute’ audios. I am going to teach you a bit of Greek today! During the last supper meal, recorded in John 14:16 ‘And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper to be with you forever…’(ESV) This is Jesus saying that when he departs he will send a comforter. Oh, how they needed that promise two days later, on the Saturday after Good Friday.
During his 3 years in ministry on earth, Jesus had been their helper, counsellor and comforter. Then in John 14:16 he promised, God ‘will give another helper another comforter to be with you forever.’ What did he mean by ‘another? I can tell you he didn’t mean someone else, the Greek word ‘Allos’ that he spoke means another but identically the same person. The Holy Spirit who is with us and within us is the same Spirit of Jesus. ‘Allos paracletos’, another helper, counsellor and comforter.
We are not expected live this Christian life all on our own we have the helper parakletos.
Do you feel alone in your battles? We have a helper, the very same Spirit of Jesus. Reach out to Him tell Him about your struggles today, He is your ever-present helper.
Happy Easter

A Prayer
'O Lord my God, do not be far from me. My God, have regard to help me. I have many thoughts and great fears afflicting my soul. How will I pass through unhurt? How will I break them to pieces? This is my hope, my one only consolation, to flee to you in every tribulation, to trust in you, to call on you from my inmost heart, and to wait patiently for your consolation.' Amen
Thomas a Kempis (1380-1471)
Blessed are you, creator of all, to you be praise and glory forever. As your dawn renews the face of the earth bringing light and life to all creation, may we rejoice in this day you have made; as we wake refreshed from the depths of sleep, open our eyes to behold your presence and strengthen our hands to do your will, that the world may rejoice and give you praise. Amen
Lancelot Andrewes (1555-1626)
O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: we pray you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to the same place where Christ has gone before, through Jesus Christ our Lord. A Prayer of Teresa of Lisieux
Just for today, what does it matter, O Lord, if the future is dark? To pray for tomorrow I am not able. Keep my heart only for today, grant me your light just for today. Amen Teresa of Lisieux (1873-97)
